Director’s Note

“I wish…”

It’s a simple phrase. A longing. A hope. A cry for something more. In Into the Woods, wishes set everything into motion—each character steps forward with a desire in their heart and a belief that getting what they want will solve everything. But what happens after the wish comes true?

Stephen Sondheim’s brilliant and layered musical takes us on a journey that begins like a fairy tale but quickly becomes something far more real. Into the Woods is not just about witches, giants, and magic beans—it’s about what happens when our dreams don’t deliver the happy ending we imagined. It explores the truth that every choice has a consequence and that no one’s story exists in isolation.

At its heart, Into the Woods is about relationships—between parents and children, between spouses, between neighbors. It shows us the beauty and the brokenness that come when we try to love and be loved. The musical asks hard questions: How do we protect our children while also teaching them to face the world? What does it mean to be faithful, to forgive, to grow? How do we rebuild when the world changes around us?

This production invites you to reflect on your own “I wish.” It challenges us all to look beyond the surface of our fairy tales and consider the cost of our desires—and the strength it takes to walk forward when the path grows dark.
